Be an Advocate. Be an Ally. Be a Friend. BE A SPONSOR!

This year,in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, People First was forced to move all our advocacy and leadership activities a virtual format to keep our members safe. We have worked hard to increase our social media presence, and was able to increase our Facebook followers from 700 to well over one thousand friends and followers in just four months! Our weekly Advocate Zoom hours and co-sponsorship of the virtual events for the 30th Anniversary Americans with Disabilities Act have helped self-advocates from around the state stay connected and continue to learn about advocacy and leadership. This next year, we will continue to establish ourselves as a go-to organization for technical assistance and advocacy provided by leading advocates with disabilities. We have learned so much about how to organize and facilitate on-line training and events and will assist other organizations strengthen their on-line presence.
This past year, we were excited to hire self-advocates to work on policy advocacy in Lincoln. We saw more disability-positive legislation and funding increases move through the Unicameral than we have in recent memory, including increased funding for community-based services, a lift on the income cap to qualify for Medicare, and the defeat of a dangerous restraint and seclusion bill. We will continue this program to train more policy advocates and to have the consistent presence of people with disabilities in our state capitol when decisions are being made about our lives.
This year, we hired a coordinator for western Nebraska and have begun organizing a new chapter in North Platte. In 2021, we plan on adding at least two new chapters in western Nebraska!
In June of 2019, we successfully co-sponsored the first-ever Midwest self-advocacy conference that attracted over 200 self-advocates and allies and had four nationally-known keynote speakers. We are currently planning our second regional convention in August of 2021 in Iowa and will take a large delegation of self-advocates. Our Nebraska members will present on self-determination, leadership, and self-advocacy and share our expertise with self-advocates from Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas.
As you can see, we have very ambitious plan for our organization this year, including our first-ever virtual state convention on October 10, 2020!
We need your help to make this convention and this organization one of learning, networking, and development. We are asking for sponsorships from disability agencies and organizations like yours. We offer several levels of sponsorship :
